History

When the League was formed there were no facilities provided by the local urban district council. Also, none of the teams who applied to join the League had access to any football fields. Innovative action was required and so the newly formed management committee arranged for the hire of fields from local farmers out in Carnbane in the north east side of Newry. The fields were cut, rolled, marked out and goalposts erected, and so the Carnbane League was up and running. Matches were played at Carnbane Park, McDonald Park and later at Rugby Park.

Within the next five years as more teams looked to join the League, the management committee increased the number of fields it rented in the Carnbane area. Use of fields was also acquired at Crown Park Crieve, Reed Park Warrenpoint and the factory fields at Damolly and the Ulster Farmers.

Also, land was rented from the Department of Economic Development which enabled five pitches to be made in the south side of the town just off the Warrenpoint Road at Greenwood Park on the former " Marshes" which is now the Greenbank Industrial Estate.

Following the loss of all the Greenwood Park pitches to industrial development in the late seventies and early eighties, the Department of Economic Development again came to the assistance of the League and allowed it to rent additional land in Carnbane at the Polo Fields which gave the League five pitches to use. Sadly, these pitches have now also been lost to industrial development on the Carnbane Industrial Estate.
