MID ULSTER SHIELD FINAL – EASTER MONDAY 18 APRIL 2022

CLEARY CELTIC 2 PORTADOWN BBOB 1

Well done to Cleary Celtic on winning the Mid Ulster Shield once again at Armagh City’s Holm Park ground. There was drama in the opening minutes when Portadown BBOB had a man sent off for pulling back a Cleary Celtic player who was heading into the penalty area with only the keeper to beat. Despite being down to ten men, Portadown BBOB took the lead in the 19th minute through Josh Mathers. Cleary realised they were in a game and had to work hard to get an equaliser in the 37th minute through Stephen McCabe.

The second half was a closely fought contest and the Hoops supporters were jubilant when Declan Loye headed home from a corner in the 81st minute to ensure that the coveted Mid Ulster Shield was on it’s way back to Carnbane League territory. The winning goal scorer also was awarded the man of the match trophy for his heroics.
